Here’s another voice on the impact of last week’s U.S. Supreme Court’s decision overturning overall limits on federal campaign contributions and what it means for local pay-to-play reform.
Harry Pozycki is chairman of The Citizens Campaign, a non-profit that has pushed for pay-to-play laws statewide, including Bergen County.
Here’s what Pozcyki said in a prepared statement:
“This decision, especially coupled with the Citizens United decision, makes the need for strong anti-pay-to-play laws absolutely essential. With unprecedented levels of unregulated money flowing into campaign coffers, it is critical that we protect the governmental contracting against influence peddling and corruption. Anti-pay-to-play laws have continually proven to be constitutional and effective in ensuring that government contracts are awarded on merit and cost-effectiveness and not campaign contributions.”
